Lee County has issued an evacuation orders for Zones A and B (this includes North Captiva Island). If you live in these zones, finalize your emergency plans and leave as soon as you can to get to safety. You should be in a safe place by Tuesday, Oct. 8, in the evening. Three emergency shelters are opening for individuals who do not have a safe place to ride out the storm. We encourage you to stay with friends or family outside of an evacuation zone, which would provide a much more comfortable option. If you do choose to go to a shelter, please bring a Go Kit for each member of your family, including pets. LeeTran - Lee County, FL Transit is offering free transportation to emergency shelters. Route information can be found on their social channels and at leegov.com/storm. Tolls have been suspended on all Lee County bridges as of noon today. For more information, visit leegov.com/storm.

The fire district plans on returning to the island Friday morning. Several of us will meet at 7am off Pine Island, as we do not know what obstacles we will face. We will get to the island and begin our assessment in hopes we have little to no damage and we can begin organizing, formulating a plan to get our small community up and running. I have already spoken to LCEC; I will be in touch with them if they need a ride out. We will do our best to facilitate that so they have boots on ground.

Remember the phrase, “How do you eat an elephant?.... Bite by bite”. That is how we will proceed with this storm, just like any other challenge we face. The most important part of this is everyone stay safe while the storm makes impact. Nothing is more important to us as a district than your well being!

Our prayers are with our community and those who may be affected by this storm. Please do not try and make it back to the island until it is safe to do so.
