The Florida Department of Health has kept the COVID-19 risk as "substantial". As such, our Fire Board meetings will continue to be held with the same COVID protocols that have been followed for the past few months, including limited seating and social distancing. For those of you who are unvaccinated, please wear a mask at all times. We ask that you continue to follow and respect all COVID protocols, for your own safety as well as the safety of others.

The option to attend via Zoom will remain for now, but those of you who have been joining us via Zoom know how unreliable the service has been. There have been ongoing issues including delays in starting our meeting on time, not being able to find a regular moderator and the service simply dropping off one or more times during the meeting. If you are on the Island, and especially if you have substantive comments, we suggest that you attend the meeting in person rather than by Zoom. You also have the option of contacting one or more of the Commissioners and/or Chief Martin prior to the meeting date to discuss any issues or express your concerns.

Our meetings will start at 10:00 AM, whether or not the Zoom is functioning. Should service drop during our meeting, the meeting will continue and there will be no interruption to "catch up" if or when the Zoom service returns.

Because of repeated interruptions and outbursts by certain individuals, the Board has also put the following in place:

- All persons attending by Zoom, with the exception of Commissioners, shall remain muted until recognized by the Chair; anyone who continues to abuse this privilege will be asked to leave the meeting;
- Public comment will be limited to two (2) minutes per person per subject. Should there be a number of persons who all have the same comment, it is requested that you try to select a spokesperson to speak on behalf of "the following people...."; obviously, differing comments will be heard separately. No one will be allowed to relinquish their time to someone else;
Please keep in mind that the Board is under no legal obligation to provide Zoom and/or phone options to the general public. In fact, we are the only Fire District in Lee County that does so. While we want to continue to extend this courtesy, we have reached a point where the continued abuse by certain individuals along with the unreliability of the service itself has resulted in numerous delays and distractions.
