Ladies and Gentlemen boys and girls of all ages step right up to the roller coaster ride we call HURRICANE SEASON!!!!!!! Please be prepared going into this week. Please have a plan in place to leave the island and seek alternative shelter if this does indeed turn into a major storm.
|
We at the fire district are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. As emergency workers, we will be on island until our zone is ordered to evacuate.. I, myself, will be present until the county says pack it up!!!!! We are doing the same process as before - if you decide to stay please provide the information to CERT Communication Coordinator Melissa Heberle or at info@uppercaptivafire.org so we can account for your well being after the storm passes. As always, I recommend everyone leave. Remember last week Helene was 160 miles off shore and we received more water than we did with any other storm to date. This is my own opinion as I have been present on island for over 17 years.

We will always provide the community with fire protection and medical care but we will advise for you to leave before this storm makes landfall. Ahead of the storm, please secure any debris that may become projectiles. We are ready to help the community after with all the assets already acquired for clean up after Helene. Duncan, Alex and Noah have been huge in helping the fire district with transporting the items to the island from the mainland.

We have received information from Island Girl Charters that the last of their boats leaving North Captiva will be 10/6 1:30pm.
