Residents are urged to finalize hurricane plans, while continuing to monitor weather reports from local meteorologists and US National Weather Service Tampa Bay Florida. Hurricane Milton is forecast to bring wind, life-threatening storm surge, and localized flooding to Lee County later this week. Residents need to:
- Revisit their family emergency plan.
- Check their emergency supply kits.
- Secure objects around homes.
- Monitor local meteorologists’ reports.
Tune in at noon Eastern Time on Monday, Oct. 7, for information about evacuation orders and shelter openings, as well as LeeTran service to those shelters. Residents who live in coastal areas or flood-prone inland areas do not need to wait for evacuation orders to mobilize. Go to friends' or family members’ homes or make arrangements to relocate inland.
Now let's get down to business. We at UCFRD will button up the station tomorrow and will evacuate. We will finalize what residents may be staying on island. I am happy to hear most are leaving. Your well being is always more important than any home or personal property.
We will be out after the storm passes when it is safe to travel out. My phone will be on me most of you know my number. I will also have the district phone with me. I wish everyone well and please stay close to loved ones. Please reach out to me with any questions concerns.

I hope everyone secured loose items, shut off any propane tanks, and are safe until after the storm passes.
