I sincerely hope that all of you are having a pleasant and safe Holiday Season and that those of you who are fortunate enough to be here are enjoying this wonderful weather.
The 2021 Trimming Project was completed a few days before Christmas. All of our access-ways have been widened in order to accommodate our Fire Department vehicles. It is my understanding that the Access-way Maintenance Committee, under the guidance of Commissioner LaVallie, will be starting some repair and rehabilitation work beginning with Mourning Dove early next month.
There are still a few areas of concern in regard to emergency vehicle access which were outside the scope of this project. Fire Chief Jason Martin and/or one of his officers will be contacting the owners of those properties in the near future in order to discuss the problem and possible solutions. It has been our experience over the years that, in some cases, it is a former owner who may be responsible for the problem. However, we ask that you work with us to the extent possible, to rectify the situation as it pertains to our emergency vehicles and our ability to reach your home, or your neighbor's home, in an emergency.
Also, please note that it is illegal to dispose of anything, including trimmings, onto someone else's property, even if it is a vacant lot. Violators will be referred to Lee County Code Enforcement and the Lee County Sheriff's Department.
Any piles of trimmings that exist now or in the future shall be the responsibility of the property owner for proper removal and disposal. We are in the beginning of our dry season and one carelessly tossed cigarette butt, match, firecracker, etc., could quickly turn into a major brush fire.

Thank you for helping to keep our Island safe,
