The Board of Fire Commissioners has selected Jon Kennedy and Clean Cut Tree Service to perform the annual trimming project on our access-ways. The goal is to create a "window" of at least 15'x15' so as to allow our emergency vehicles to safely respond to calls. It is not the purpose of the project to landscape and groom the entire Island.
The project will commence following the Thanksgiving Holiday. The goal is to have the project completed prior to the influx of renters and guests for the Christmas and New Year period. Should there be significant delays due to weather and/or equipment problems, work will stop during the holiday period and finish up in early January.
Anyone who wants to have the trimmings chipped onto their property, or to have chips brought to their property should contact Jon Kennedy directly.
Fire Chief Martin and his officers will conduct regular inspections during the term of the project. Any problems or deficiencies will be brought to the attention of Clean Cut and/or the property owner. Once each access-way has been completed and approved by the UCF&RD, any additional piles of trimmings shall be the responsibility of the property owner for proper removal and disposal.
A reminder that it is illegal to dump anything, including trimmings, on someone else's property. Anyone caught doing so will be referred to law enforcement.
Also, please note that this project does not include any properties within Safety Harbor Club.
One change in the project this year is that property owners will no longer have the option of "opting out". This is due to the fact that a majority of those who "opted out" last year never followed through with their obligation to have the trimming done, resulting in some areas where responding emergency vehicles have encountered some difficulties in getting through.
I will be providing updates on a regular basis as to where the Clean Cut crew will be working. The project will begin on Schooner Drive and proceed north until reaching Safety Harbor Club. After that, the crew will move to the North End and work on Mourning Dove. These locations will be done first so that the Access-way Maintenance Committee can perform much needed repair and renovation work at those locations.
Obviously, the easiest thing to do if you want to "do it yourself" is to do exactly that, or contact your landscaper to have it done right away, before the Clean Cut crew gets to your location. Just advise me that the work has been done. Another suggestion is for you or a representative, such as a property manager, rental agent, housekeeper, etc., to be present and provide guidance to the crew. Simply notify me in writing of your address(es) and contact information for your representative and we will do our best to coordinate.

Our thanks to all of you for your anticipated cooperation and patience during the course of this project.
