We had indicated recently that we needed 24 hours to assess the fire district needs. That has been done. At 11am yesterday we returned to normal operations so we are functioning as we should be. We are on generator power but we are able to service the community as we should.

We have some very concerning issues regarding responding to areas of our district we are addressing these concerns. We have areas of pathways that are completely washed out making impassable with our apparatus. The good news is the team here at the fire department has requested help from the EOC and the Fire Branch Division and they have stepped up and are providing the material and equipment to help get the foundation of the pathways back to being passable.

It's Electric Boogie Woogie..... I have been in constant contact with LCEC representative and they are very understanding to what our situation is and are working diligently to get repairs done on Captiva. This is where the feed originates hopefully then we can have them come to the island and begin assessing our situation. The blind pass bridge had been washed out, but it was open yesterday allowing for workers and residents back to the island.

I know we have had one hell of a month but as always I do believe we can overcome anything mother nature throws at us. We will have portable showers and restrooms here at the fire station or nearby for the residents to use if we will be without power for a longer than expected time. The fire district will do whatever we can to facilitate getting the community back to a normal state.

I ask that if you have an idea please contact me directly before any calls are made so we aren't doing twice the work. If you believe something is taking too long please contact me. We do not have a timeline currently the ball just began rolling. Please allow us to get through the weekend so we have a better idea of the progress. I know everyone wants to get back to the island to assess damage to their homes. We can not stop you. Just know traversing the island is treacherous and can be dangerous please be careful and travel at your own peril. I know that sounds ominous just be careful please.

Lastly remember lithium batteries and regular batteries can catch fire. We need to be very aware of this life safety.I know we can come together and rebuild our community again!
