MJ and her husband Jerry have been Island homeowners since October of 2000, so have officially survived two island hurricanes, both Charlie and Ian. Fortunately, lessons learned during Charlie helped in preparations for Ian, and shoring up their property to weather the storm. Having been a part of the island community for so long, they deeply appreciate the beautiful North Captiva ambiance and feel privileged to be a part of a strong and resilient family of neighbors.

MJ grew up in Milwaukee, WI and attended graduated from Cardinal Stritch college with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1989. MJ has worked as a business leader in publicly held companies for the last 30 years and have experience in, and understands the importance of clear and respectful communication, responsible goal setting, managing priorities, and budgeting for support of prioritized initiatives.
MJ Yafchak joined the UCFRD Board of Commissioners in May of 2024. MJ is honored to serve the community in the capacity of a Board Commissioner and is looking forward to supporting the ongoing efforts of the UCFRD and getting to know the Fire Team members, while also supporting the needs of the Island residents and property owners.
