The Upper Captiva Fire and Rescue District and Chief Jason Martin are honored to announce the appointment of the first official Chaplain in our island’s history. David Bolme has been appointed as Chaplain serving the Firefighters and community of North Captiva Island.  David has been a full-time island resident since July 2017, works remotely full-time for a biometric technology company, is active on the Board of the UCCA, and supports the UCFRD as web site manager.  David and his family have loved the island since their first visit in the early 1990’s.

Chief Martin and Chaplain Bolme will work together to establish a Health Support Advocacy program to support the emotional, spiritual, mental health, and well-being of all members of the department.  David has a long history of volunteer service as an ordained deacon, a Discipleship Training Director, adult Sunday School teacher and pulpit supply as necessary by his senior pastors.

“I feel honored to be asked to serve alongside the men and women of the Fire District as Chaplain. I will do my best to be available as needed to support the emotional, spiritual, mental health, and well-being of all members of the department and Island community. I am looking forward to developing new relationships, forming new friendships, and serving the public in this new endeavor.”

The fire service has a long-standing history of providing for the emotional and spiritual support of its members though various forms of Chaplaincy.  As part of a comprehensive workplace wellness effort, the Upper Captiva Fire and Rescue District recognizes the importance of emotional, spiritual, and mental well-being for its employees.

This is a volunteer position which will serve at the discretion of the Chief and will hold no authority within the organization for purposes of rank, operations, staffing, or pay.

More information about the new Chaplain programs will be found on the Upper Captiva Fire and Rescue District website at www.uppercaptivafire.org.

Join us in welcoming Chaplain David Bolme as he begins serving the residents and firefighters of our island.
