From the Chief,
As we move into the summer months, there are new challenges on our island we should be mindful of. Many new things are happening which are improving our ability to respond to all types of emergencies. Stop by and let us share with you what is happening.
Storm season is here… We have been revamping our operations for such events and, while not able to control the weather, we are doing our best to ensure the safety of our guests and residents. Part of this preparation is the recovery and resuming of our operations as soon as possible after an event. Reminder, if you haven’t already… Grab your re- entry pass from us. In the event of a big weather event, we don’t want you stuck on the mainland!
As we approach the 4th of July Holiday, I want to remind everyone that fireworks are prohibited on the island. Let’s work together to insure we are all safe and can enjoy our holiday without a fire or serious injury. We know the risks here on the island, let’s work together to educate our guests so they can help us celebrate safely.
Pass the word to our guests. And let them know that 911 works out here also! We recently have had calls from guests who did not know this. While we work to keep our community quiet, we are able to offer Emergency services as would be expected anywhere else. Thanks to the community support for the Fire Department, we are able to deliver the services that everyone deserves in any case of emergency.
I’d like to thank everyone for supporting us here at the Fire Department. I’d like to thank Commissioner A.J. LaVallie and his partners in improving and maintaining our road system over the past year. As we have received several heavy rains, the roads are looking and working better than ever. As always, a big thank you from us all here at the Fire Department. It’s our pleasure to serve and share this wonderful community.
Sincerely,
Jason M Martin, Chief
